Updated 25/04/06 There are two main parts to the trip that need funding. Obviously there is the trip itself - the safari, flights, travel and accommodation etc. Additionally, we need to raise money for the community project part of the trip. Each person needs to raise a minimum of £50 to pay for this part of the trip. Any additional monies raised will be used to fund donations of clothing and other equipment the school / village may find useful. Students are raising money for the different components of the trip in different ways. Sponsored Walk - The first training weekend walk was a sponsored event. Students were all tied together in a line. They had to walk like this for 18 miles over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Straight bits of footpath were fine but it took us a while to get good at kissing gates and stiles! Still, it was a good added teambuilding challenge and students worked hard to get sponsorship. Business / Award Sponsorship - Letters have been written to various businesses and organisations in Theale and West Berkshire explaining what we are doing and asking for donations. Cake Sales - We think we've raised the most money this way so far. The students bake cakes on Thursday night and the generous (cake loving) staff at school pay for a slice of cake with their break time cup of tea on Friday. We nearly always have some spares so the sixth form get offered some as well. So far we've made over £300 with the cake sales we've had so far. A big thank you to all the cake lovers out there - keep your eye open for more in the New Year! Non-uniform day - A school non-uniform day will be organised in the New Year. Some of the proceeds from this day will go towards the community project part of our trip to Uganda. Refreshments at House Evenings - A big thank you to Hunt, Piper and Benyon houses for letting us sell refreshments during the interval at house evening. We raised a considerable amount of money, which will go towards the Community Project we visit during the trip. |
